GIS Survey for Drainage Lines (PMC / Smart City)

DGPS survey of drainage, sewer and stormwater lines, delivered as a KML file the ward office can upload straight into the corporation's Smart City GIS.

Overview

What this survey delivers.

PMC and other local bodies now ask contractors to hand over executed drainage lines as GIS data. We survey the line with DGPS — every manhole and chamber as a real-world coordinate, the alignment between them, and invert levels and depths where the department asks for them — and deliver a ready-to-submit KML / KMZ file on a pendrive, with CAD, shapefile or Excel alongside it on request. The same survey covers sewer, stormwater, water-supply and other underground utility lines for PMC, PCMC and nagar parishad contractors.

Why this survey matters

A handheld GPS or a phone app puts the line several metres from where it actually is — often enough for the file to come back from the ward office. This work needs DGPS accuracy, because the data has to sit correctly against everything else already in the corporation's GIS.

The other half is timing. Survey the line before it's backfilled and the road is restored, while every chamber is still open and traceable. Mapping a buried line afterwards costs far more time than surveying it on schedule — and the GIS file is now part of the handover, like the measurement book.

Deliverables

  • KML / KMZ file for GIS upload
  • Manhole & chamber coordinates
  • Line alignment with chainage
  • Invert levels & depths
  • CAD / shapefile / Excel on request
  • Data handed over on a pendrive
